Ballustrade Support Fixing/Balconies

Application Instructions

Balustrade support fixings can be installed onto a completed GRP laminate after it has cured. The timber plinth is laminated to the substrate and then topcoated. The balustrade is then screwed into the plinth and the holes and area around the screws are completely sealed with polyurethane (PU) adhesive. Always ensure the roof area on which the fixing will be laminated is clean, dry and free from debris, wiping the surface down with acetone will help to remove any contaminants present in the laminate. It may help to clean and abrade the surface with medium grade sand paper before wiping with acetone to increase the inter-laminar adhesion.

When applying GRP to balconies or any other area which will be subject to heavy foot traffic, a 600g/m2 laminate should always be used.

It is also advisable to incorporate a non-slip aggregate finish into the topcoat. Always take extra care to ensure a good quality finish when installing GRP on a walkway or balcony.
